In I Timothy 3: 8-13, the Bible says: Likewise must the deacons be grave, not double tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for filthy lucre, holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. But let these also first be proved: then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithfull in all things. Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Deacons shall assist the pastor in carrying out the work of the church. They are active in discipleship and evangelism. In addition, the deacons assist in participating and carrying out the church ordinances of Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Moreover, the deacons minister to the sick & shut -in, and in the maintenance & care of the church property.
